A number of residents have written us to ask about an update on the installation of two police cameras within Cabbagetown South and Regent Park. Understandably, the installation was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have not been provided with a new date for installation.
For background, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) has selected two locations within our community for the installation of TPS owned and managed public space Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras;
The objectives of the TPS CCTV program are:
Signs will be placed below the cameras to notify the public they are entering a zone which is monitored by TPS CCTV equipment.
The TPS does not actively monitor these cameras. They are not a live feed. The cameras only capture public spaces, and at no time will they capture the interior of private property. The CCTV systems will only retain video for 72 hours at which point it will be erased and recorded over.
