Community Safety Walks

On two different occasions this summer members of the Police, City Councilors (and candidates), Toronto Community Housing, Margaret’s, Street Health and more, as well as community residents, attended safety walks around the Dundas and Sherbourne area. Councillor Lucy Troisi was instrumental in ensuring that key people from the city were in attendance, as well as Mayor John Tory himself. On both of these walks the turnout from our community was impressive.

A number of initiatives have come from these:
Ontario Hydro has cut back trees in our alleys that we’re blocking lighting and making problematic areas along Callaghan Lane and Oskenonton Lane especially dark and unsafe. They have also repaired some damaged lights. Requests for additional lighting and tree trimming in some areas have been made but not yet done.

Working with TCHC to properly repair the gate on Oskenonton lane that drug dealers use to enter the property unseen 24/7 and to clean up garbage surrounding their properties. This issue is ongoing.

New lights have been added to the front and back of the TCHC William Dennison Apartments, as well as 24-hour security.
A number of motion-activated lights have been added by local residents behind Street Health.
